The Living Well Project has, since 2011, provided a befriending service to vulnerable older people in the North of Aberdeen. This remains a need in the community and we continue to have the vision that this is necessary.
The project has been grateful for the support of a number of funders over the years. However, the funding environment at this time is very difficult. As a result of the challenging funding environment it is with regret that the management team have had to take the difficult decision that it will not be possible, at this time, to continue the befriending service in the current format.
From the end of March there will no longer be paid staff within the befriending service and we will be unable to accept new referrals. We are also unable to take on new volunteers at the moment. We plan to continue to support the existing matches at present. Please be assured that the management team are continuing to pursue funding applications and should this be successful would look at how the service can be restored to allow new matches. If you have any suggestions for funding, or would like to make a donation, please let us know.
To avoid any confusion these changes only affect the befriending service and not the cafes at the present time.
We understand that this will cause anxiety and disappointment for many. We hope to provide updates on the website in due course.
